ALLERGAN TRUETEAR
(work done while at IDEO)
The start-up, Oculeve, was showing promising results from its human testing of its device for the treatment of dry eye and wanted help to bring the design from a rough prototype to a commercial product. The device is a neurostimulator that is used as necessary to stimulate the nasal cavity, causing the production of natural tears.
Initial research and subsequent feedback with patients helped guide improvements in usability, functionality and aesthetics. Iterations of concepts, prototypes and user feedback helped refine the device design and user experience.
Designers worked closely with Oculeve’s engineering and marketing teams to create a functionally refined product and thoughtful user experience. Oculeve was purchased by Allergan for $125 million to incorporate its promising treatment.
